Cojuangco cites valuable contributions of seamen to economy

COJUANGCO UPDATES

FORMER Fifth District Rep. Mark Cojuangco lauded Filipino seamen for their valued contributions in seafaring around the world even as he wished graduates of PIMSAT Colleges to carry on their torch of excellence to their future employment.

Cojuangco, who was guest of honor and speaker during the recent 50th commencement exercises of PIMSAT Colleges held at the CSI Stadia, Dagupan City, also congratulated the school’s recent success with its increased enrollment last year by 997, making its total number of students to 2,800 “which is a very big accomplishment indeed”.

He noted that the school is ISO- certified which reflects that the “quality of its graduates is more or less assured to be at a certain standard”.

He said Filipino seamen are known worldwide as excellent professionals, citing a fact that about 50 percent of all seamen in the world come from the Philippines.

He said their contributions as Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) are vital as they keep the economy afloat.

“Without OFWs, without the inflow of money from them, our economy will not grow and our country would not have survived,” he said in Filipino.

Cojuangco said Filipino seamen are “popular for being hardworking, law-abiding, flexible, pleasant, friendly, helpful, competent and reliable which are the same qualities that are imbibed by PIMSAT”.

He said these are the traits they carry out when they work abroad and are thus preferred by foreign employers.

“And I know that you, new graduates will uphold these characteristics and make Filipinos proud and make foreign employers happy that they hired Filipinos, and you will protect the future market for Filipino labor in whatever job you seek,” he added.

Former Fifth District Rep. Mark Cojuangco delivers his message as guest of honor and speaker during the 50thcommencement exercises of PIMSAT Colleges on March 31 held at the CSI Stadia in Dagupan City with the theme “ Engagement to National and international Peace and Prosperity: Challenge to Graduates”. Other inspirational speakers were Engr. Marcelo Casillan Jr ad apt. Reynold Burt Sabay.

Cojuangco said their graduation signals not the end but a beginning as it opens new chapter in their life journey. “There will be many opportunities that will come to you so you must be prepared,” he advised the graduates.

He said the key to success is 90 percent preparation and 10 percent inspiration.

He told them to have the ability to do something even without being told to do so, to absorb like a sponge the knowledge they gain and use them as they explore the world. “You will meet many, you will learn things you did not learn inside the classroom,” he added.

“That’s knowledge gained from personal experience. You will have that experience. Don’t waste it,” he said.

“Keep an open mind. Avoid biases when you go abroad,” he said.

He added, “Open your mind to be a better person, the experience that you are going to have will offer you an even greater opportunity, great experiences more than what you learned in this school”.

Cojuangco who is eyeing the gubernatorial post in 2016 said part of his vision is to improve the economy in the province by encouraging investors to put up business, factories and industries to open more employment here.

When employment abounds in the province, there will be less need for its people to go out of the country to work, he said.

He encouraged the graduates that once they have saved much and are prepared to go home, they should invest in the province by building their own homes or engaging in business to further boost the economy.

Meanwhile, Cojuangco also lauded the graduates’ parents for their sacrifices in sending them to school.
