LINGAYEN – “It’s all part of normal parliamentary procedures.”

This was emphasized by Vice Governor Jose Ferdinand Z. Calimlim, Jr.  in a media interview last Monday, April 13 at the Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) session belying rumors that “politics” was behind the shuffling of committee chairmanships in the legislative body.

Mr. Calimlim, also the presiding officer, made the clarification after the adoption of Provincial Resolution No. 1286-2015 “confirming the appointment of the new chairmen of the various committees of the 8th Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Pangasinan.”

“There were series of consultations made before we came up with this new realignment of chairmanships. Hindi ito biglaan. Ito ay pinag-aralan at napagkasunduan ng maayos na walang away at walang samaan ng loob,” he told the local media.

The vice governor said he wanted to end speculations over the “sudden” change of Majority Floor Leader which has been taken over by 2nd District Board Member Nestor D. Reyes vice BM Clemente Arboleda, Jr of the 5th District.

Calimlim affirmed that political affiliations have never been an issue in the appointment of chairmanships “dahil kung pulitika ang dahilan sana isang committee lang ang pinalitan pero lahat ay napalitan.”  Changes are inevitable so we must view these as mature individuals. This is just a normal procedure inside the parliamentary body,” he added.

Furthermore, he said the changes are not only good because these give members the opportunity to experience in handling other committees where they know they can be effective as well but also these were done in complete transparency particularly in consultation with Gov. Amado Espino, Jr.

“Under my watch, I will do my very best to keep the Sangguniang Panlalawigan productive and united. And until the very last day of our service, we will work together for the sake of the people of Pangasinan because we are mandated to serve them and not to serve a political party,” he assured. (PIO)
