THE coastal waters of Bolinao and Anda towns in Pangasinan remain positive of red tide toxin based on the latest advisory from the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) and the public is warned not to eat shellfishes, shrimps and crabs gathered/ harvested from the waters of Anda and Bolinao until further notice.

In an advisory dated April 6, BFAR Region 1 Director Nestor Domenden cited the warning in the Shellfish Bulletin No. 8, series of 2015.

He urged local government units “to require market inspectors, quarantine officers, administrators to demand for ‘Auxiliary Invoice’ or clearance for Domestic Fish Movement from transporters/dealers of fish and seashells sourced from other provinces/municipalities to ensure that the fish products did not come from areas found positive of paralytic shellfish poisoning (PSP).”

SEIZED FROM ANDA

Meanwhile, elements of Dagupan City Police Station, with fish examiners and group of Bantay Ilog seized 40 sacks of shellfish (valued at P33,500), last April 7 after the driver of the vehicle failed to present the required clearances.

The van driver, Jeffrey dela Cruz, 27, and his helper Alejandro Legaspi, 28, both residents of Anda, were charged for violation of Fisheries Ordinance No. 1768-2003 section 73. (Tita Roces)
