URDANETA CITY—The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) revenue district office (RDO) 6 urges corporations and offices to enroll and comply with the electronic filing system to avoid penalties.

Atty. Nasrollah Conding, district officer of RDO6 said BIR will strictly implement the electronic filing not only the top 5000 taxpayers but also accredited and prospective importers and brokers, national government agencies, licensed local contractors, recipients of fiscal incentives, firms with a paid up capital of P10 million and above, procuring government agencies, government bidders, large taxpayers, and the top 20,000 private corporations.

Also included in the list are accredited tax practitioners and their clients, accredited printers of receipts, one-time transaction taxpayers, state-owned firms, local government units, and cooperatives registered with the National Electrification Administration and Local Water Utilities Administration or the large taxpayers in each district office since January this year.

Conding said the law mandating the electronic filing was passed two years ago, it was not fully implemented yet because of the resistance of some taxpayers to enroll.

He said under the electronic filing, corporations and offices need not go to the BIR office to file their returns since transactions including tax payments or remittances will already be done online.

He said online transactions, computations of taxes will be more transparent and accurate, and “red tape will not be possible since the clients will be managed by the system and not by employees”, said Conding.

Furthermore, the top 500 taxpayers will be generated by the agency’s system and sent to the respective district offices.

RDO6 already sent letters to the top taxpayers requiring them to enroll. Penalties will be imposed on non- compliant taxpayers.

Meanwhile, RDO6 already collected P108 million, almost 40% higher than their P74 million collection last March 2013. (Hilda Austria)
