VMUF researchers shine in regional research contest

RESEARCHERS from Virgen Milagrosa University Foundation in San Carlos City reaped honors at the Region 1 Health Research and Development Consortium (R1HRDC) Research Contest after four of its participants won the top 3 honors in the oral presentation on student and professional category.

The College of Dentistry and the College of Pharmacy were awarded the Best Oral Presentation in the student category.  The College of Dentistry’s research: “Activated Charcoal as a Dental Handpiece Filtration Unit Against Heavy Metals” was authored by Kevin Razalan, Arvin Nuñez and Amormio Cando; the College of Pharmacy’s research, “A Cholesterol -Lecithin Liposome Based Entrapment for Azithromycin”, was authored by Merrizarose Lanconsay, Joshua Bautista and Dana Rae Roldan.

In the professional category, Dr. Catherine G. Torio won 2nd place for her research,“Community Based Maternal New Born Child Health and Nutrition (MNCHN) Program in Pangasinan: Basis for a Development Plan”, as “best oral presentation.”

Holden Kirby M. Valdez bested five in the Poster Presentation (Professional Category) with research title, “Disaster Management Capability of Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council in Pangasinan: Basis for a Capability Enhancement Program”.

Dr. Ma. Lourdes K. Otayza, chairman of the Region 1 Health Research and Development Consortium Research (R1HRDCR) Contest, congratulated the researchers and the team that helped make the occasion, hosted by Virgen Milagrosa University Foundation last February 27, a success, with the theme, “Complementing Integrity in Health through Standard and Quality”.

Dr. Ma. Lilia P. Juan, VMUF president, thanked the R1HRDCR for choosing VMUF as host-venue and congratulated all the winners for setting up a new record and bringing honor for the university.  (Norman C. Caguioa)
