San Roque Project assure water supply for irrigation
SAN MANUEL –There will be enough water supply for irrigation of Pangasinan farmlands during the dry season.
This was assured by Tom Valdez, vice president for corporate social responsibility of the San Roque Power Corporation, amid threats of El Nino in the country.
“We are above the rule curve and we will meet the requirements of irrigation until the last week of May,” Valdez said on Tuesday.
Valdez said SRPC meets with the National Irrigation Administration (NIA) every month of June to know its irrigation requirement on a daily basis.
For power generation, SRPC is obliged and contracted to generate at least 110 megawatts, eight hours a day.
“Sufficient yun at kayang-kaya (ng planta),” he explained.
Peaking operation of the dam is 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. where power generation is highest, Valdez said.
The San Roque Multi-purpose project has an installed capacity of 411 megawatts producing approximately 1,000 gigawatt hour per year (GWh/year) providing renewable peaking energy to the Luzon Power Grid.
Its irrigation component provides year-round irrigation to 21,000 hectares of farmlands in the province of Pangasinan with the completion of the Agno River Integrated Irrigation Project (PIA)
