PWDs get training for employment
LINGAYEN—The skills training of persons with disabilities (PWDs) to qualify them for employment have started and 101 trainees have already been deployed for on-the-job training for one month in various establishments in the province.
According to provincial employment services officer, Alex Ferrer, the employment program last month was part of the Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa ating Disadvantaged Workers (TUPAD) program of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) and provincial government of Pangasinan.
Ferrer said the 101 individuals were trained by his office prior to their deployment to different locations in the province.
“We will find them regular employments in malls soon,” he added.
Ferrer said a seminar on sign language for employers will be organized in collaboration with the Employees Confederation of the Philippines-Pangasinan Chapter.
“Maraming willing na mag-employ sa mga hearing-impaired, provided na trained,” Ferrer said.
PESO is consolidating its inventory of PWDs in the province according to their impairments for planning purposes.
All the 101 disadvantaged workers have received their salaries and certificates of program completion from the DOLE.
Last August, the provincial board inked resolution no. 702-2014 authorizing Governor Amado Espino Jr. to enter into a memorandum of agreement with the DOLE for the implementation of the TUPAD project. (Johanne Macob)
