THE Pangasinan Police has confirmed that the shooting and wounding of broadcaster Orly Navarro few meters away from his home in Barangay Pantal, Dagupan City was not work-related.

Malinaw na hindi ito work-related (It is clear that this was not work-related,” said P/Supt. Ferdinand de Asis, public information of the Pangasinan police, when asked about the matter during the Kapisanan ng mga Brodkasters sa Pilipinas (KBP) forum in Dagupan.

He confirmed that the incident was among the high-profile cases investigated by the police in Pangasinan last year.

De Asis said that the shooting incident was already solved and in the investigation, it was found out that Navarro’s neighbor had an old grudge against him.

A case for attempted murder was filed against one Rolando Lim but before the case will be brought to trial, Lim died of heart attack.

There were witnesses who issued affidavits that they saw Lim shoot Navarro.

De Asis said nothing in the investigation came out that a Dagupan City official and a rankning police official were responsible for the shooting.

“If the intention was to silence a subject, the suspect would not have used a Caliber 22 pistol,” he pointed out.

He said Navarro would not have survived that attempt it if the suspect had used a higher caliber pistol. Navarro has since returned to his job within weeks of the shooting.

He added Navarro has not indicated any threat to his life, that was why the policemen from the protective security assigned to him were already recalled. (Leonardo Micua)
