Perez tops VM Casupang Cup bikefest

DOMINIQUE Perez of Sto. Tomas showed that his 5thstage win in the 2015 Ronda Pilipinas bikathon was not a fluke by ruling the 60-kilometer VM Casupang Cup Werweran ed Mangaldan bikefest pro-amateur division that started and ended at Barangay Buenlag on March 8.

Perez, 20, out-pedalled four professional cyclists by clocking the distance in one hour 25 minutes and 33 seconds with 17 year-old Daniel Carino of Mangaldan coming in a close second ahead of Rene Esteban of San Fabian, Ronald Oranza of Villasis and Ericson Obosa of Manaoag.

As expected, the master category was dominated by the visiting Manilenos of Excellent team.

The four top places were won by perennial winner Romeo Camingao, Virgilio Espiritu, Manuel Mendoza and Custer Sadomas.

Tarlaqueno Lito Mande finished fifth while local cyclists Mon Nicolas of San Manuel and Ricky Zabala of Laoac came in sixth and seventh, respectively. Joel Balucos and Richard Seismundo of Manila, Joe Maramba of Dagupan City landed eighth to tenth, respectively.

Tour veteran Ruel Gendrano of Manila topped the grandmaster category outsprinting local bet Danny Ogay, teammate Elpidio Untalan, Pangasinenses Ronald dela Cruz and Alfonso Clauna, finishing second to fifth, respectively.

The women’s class was won by Lingayen lass Shen Versoza and Gezelle Botala of Dagupan City.

The annual Mangaldan town fiesta bikefest on its 23rd edition was flagged off by the town’s veem Manuel M. Casupang while barangay chairman Silvestre Aquino and kagawad Dante Soriano awarded the cash prizes, trophies and medals to the winners. (JAG, Jr.)
