Parents arrested for maltreating own kid

OPENLY SNIFFED SHABU

PARENTS hooked on drugs normally keep their habit a secret and away from the prying eyes of their children but not for a couple in Dagupan City.

In the case of one husband and wife who were recently arrested by the police, they had no qualms allegedly sniffing shabu in front of their children, and hurting them as well.

The couple, Lovely Cruz, 30, and her husband Joseph Jerold Cruz, 31, who works as a barker, were arrested and charged with violation of Republic Act. 7610 (Special protection of children against abuse, exploitation and discrimination) in a joint police, anti-narcotics, social welfare and national television crew’s operations on March 4 on Herrero St.

The couple’s children, aged one and three, were rescued after they were allegedly constantly physically maltreated by the suspects as evidenced by a video clip/footage showing the suspects sniffing illegal drugs in front of their children whom they maltreat, sent by concerned citizens.

The children, who showed wounds and scars on their bodies believed to be from cigarette burns, were turned over to the City Social Welfare and Development Office. (Tita Roces)
