DAGUPAN CTIY – Members of the evaluating team for the search for the cleanest, greenest and safest Local Government Units for calendar year 2014-2015 in Region 1 noted a significant change in the city from the time Mayor Belen T. Fernandez took the helm as the city mayor.

Laarni Joy Mandap of the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) commended the city for its new and innovative projects like the Senior Citizen’s Recreational Center at the Senior Citizens Park, it’s Anti-Bullying Hotline, the free Shower Program for kids, Gulayan sa Paaralan, relocation of ambulant vendors inside the public market, the absence of stray animals in the streets, dredging of the rivers, mangrove planting, a clean bangus deboning section in the market and the city’s linkages with other private entities like the Procter and Gamble for the Waste to Worth Project of the city.

“We are pleased to note that the city has a recreational center for the elderly. I believe this is the only LGU in the region which has this kind of facility,” Mandap said during the exit conference at the Conference Hall with City Administrator Farah Marie G. Decano, City Planning and Development Officer Engineer Romeo Rosario, City Engineer Virginia V. Rosario and City Disaster Risk and Reduction Management Office chief Ronald De Guzman even as she encourages the strict implementation of waste segregation.

Mandap is joined by the other members of the evaluating team in the region like Chamille Mallari of Neda, Joy Ganaden of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), Luzviminda Hate of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR), Maricris Rimar from the Department of Education (DepEd), Cesar Obar from the media, Police Chief Inspector Juanito Cabang of the PNP Region 1 and Mario Zamoranas of RANGO.

Overall, the team observed that the physical condition of the city is just normal for a city like Dagupan, “which is hindi naman madumi,” Mandap said.

Mandap added that the results of the evaluation will be deliberated on March 27 where the contenders will be known as to this year’s cleanest, greenest and safest city in the region. (Joseph C. Bacani/CIO)
