THE city local government, through the City Veterinary Office, has been conducting a month-long providing free anti-rabies mass vaccination for pet animals in the different barangays in line with the nationwide celebration of Rabies Awareness Month this March.

The campaign kicked off this Friday, March 20, in Barangay IV, where some 200 dogs were injected with anti-rabies vaccine for free.

City Veterinarian Dr. Conrado Fernandez said the annual activity is one of the initiatives of the city government, which aims to vaccinate 16,000 dogs around the city.

Rabies awareness is celebrated annually every 3rd month of the year pursuant to Anti-Rabies Law of 2007 otherwise known as Republic Act 9482.

Mayor Belen Fernandez underscored the importance of continuously educating the public to further increase their awareness not only on the nature, symptoms, prevention and control of rabies but also on the provisions of the anti-rabies law as well as the guidelines for responsible pet ownership.
