LINGAYEN – Gov. Amado T. Espino, Jr. was profuse in congratulating the Pangasinense II athletes for winning the championship title of the 2015 Region 1 Athletic Association (R1AA) held in Manaoag last February.

At the victory party tendered by the province in honor of the Pangasinense II athletes held at the Manaoag Pilgrims Center on March 16, Gov. Espino said he was deeply impressed by the performance of the delegation during the regional athletic meet where they harvested the most number of medals.

“Hindi ko ma-express ang kaligayahan ko dahil isa ito sa mga pangarap ko, ang makilala sa sports ang Pangasinan,” Gov. Espino said.

The governor said he felt honored to share in the glory earned by Pangasinan II Schools Division officials and personnel headed by Schools Division Supt. Viraluz Raguindin, the students, and particularly to be the only governor under whose stewardship the province won the R1AA championship thrice.

Pangasinan won its first championship in 2011 after the Ilocos Region dominated the R1AA (formerlyIlocos Region Athletic Association) for almost a decade.

Pangasinan again wrested the title in 2013 and this year.

The governor heaped praises on the trainors, coaches, technical staff, school officials, and the athletes of Pangasinan II for a job well done in bringing home 88 gold, 51 silver and 40 bronze medals that made it the best division in Region 1.

Espino assured the province’s continued support for the athletes training as they prepare for the forthcoming Palarong Pambansa in Tagum, Davao.

The governor has offered the use of the Narciso Ramos and Sports and Civic Center as training venue not only for the provincial but also for the other contingents that comprise the R1AA team.

He disclosed the provincial government’s plan to build its own Olympic-sized swimming pool to better prepare swimmers.

Raguindin extended the delegation’s gratitude to Espino for his unstinting support to Pangasinense athletes. (PIO)
