Eco Park soon in Mangaldan
NEW TOURIST ATTRACTION
MANGALDAN—The Angalacan River dike here will soon become a tourist attraction once the Eco Park with a bike trail is fully developed.
Mayor Bonafe Parayno said the project, initiated by the Mangaldan police station and the Mangaldan government, seeks to protect and preserve the Angalacan River system and make it a tourist attraction in the town.
“We want to preserve the river system especially that it has been a hall of famer for the search for the cleanest river in the province,” said Parayno.
The eight- kilometer Eco Park project will cover the six barangays, Embarcadero, Tebag, Pogo, Salaan, Nibaliw and Palua along the Angalacan River.
The local government will ask for a P10 million budget for each barangay from the national government to be used to prevent flood erosion and dredging and the Sangguniang Bayan is expected to pass it soon.
The project will also include a 15- kilometer mountain biking trail as an added tourist activity for local and foreign tourists who will visit Our Lady of the Rosary of Manaoag, being a Minor Basilica.
A mountain bike challenge called “Bike the Dike”, first in the town was staged last March 7 to promote the bike trail and upcoming Eco Park project.
Charles Buenvenida, mountain biking enthusiast said the trail has its uphill, downhill, sand, single track and rough terrains.
“It is friendly for beginners but requires technical and riding skills”, said Maj. Rommel Saguilot.
