Dagupan bangus fishpond owners, operators and growers form new group
A NEW group of fishpond owners, operators and growers in Dagupan City decided to form their own group to help the city government maintain, enhance, develop and protect the city’s aquatic resources, including rivers and their tributaries.
Now registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission is the Dagupan Bangus Fishpond Owners, Operators and Growers Association (DABAFOOGA).
The officers of DABAFOOGA led by Alfredo Caguioa, were inducted by Mayor Belen T. Fernandez on March 27 during the group’s island tour along the Calmay-Pugaro river.

Other officers who took their oaths were James Fernandez and Dong Fernandez, vice presidents; Felicidad Daroy, secretary; Marjorie A. Villanueva, sub-secretary; Anton Caneng, treasurer; Felimon Gonzales Jr., sub-treasurer; Danilo De Sola, auditor; Ely Mejia and Eleodoro De Vera, business managers; Kagawad David Raguindin, Kagawad Romulo Edades and Roberto Pasaron as P.R.Os.
The Board of Directors is composed of Pantal Punong Barangay Julita F. Perez, Oscar Martinez, Lucao Punong Barangay Marcelino Fernandez, City Agriculture Officer (CAO) Emma J. Molina, John Edwin Lim and Billy Dayo.
In her message, Fernandez appealed to the association to support the activities of CAO, the Bantay Ilog, the fishpond owners and small fishermen in the city.
“It’s time we work together to protect our rivers and our bangus industry and to take care of our marginalized fishermen. I am confident that together we can achieve so much more for the benefit of our aqua-culture sector. Your sincerity to help your city government will go a long way in promoting the interests of your sector and those allied with you. With your help, we will realize our goal in promoting our ‘Sa Ilog Ko, May Pagbabago’’ program, ” the mayor said.
The association’s primary purposes are 1) To continuously enhance, sustain and/or protect the quality of Dagupan bangus that is known worldwide, 2) To cooperate and take part in the implementation of the city government’s “Bangus Branding System” that gives distinct identity to Dagupan bangus thereby putting premium on it in terms of its selling price, 3) To provide an avenue where all stakeholders may discuss, deliberate and brainstorm on industry issues and concerns and serve as a direct link between bangus growers and the city government through the CAO.
