MORE than 500 pregnant women residing in Dagupan City received free pre-natal check- up and other medical services offered during the observance of the Buntis Day held last week at the CSI Stadia.

The activity was organized by the Pangasinan Medical Society (PMS) and the Philippine Obstetrical and Gynecological Society (POGS) regional chapter in cooperation with the city government as part program in observance of the Women’s Month.

Dr. Betha Fe Manaois-Castillo, PMS president, said the event was part of the nationwide campaign of the government for safe pregnancy and responsible parenthood and her organization’s focus on decreasing maternal morbidity and mortality.

The participants availed of laboratory tests such as urinalysis, blood sugar testing, and ultrasound examination while some 100 women also underwent free breast and cervical cancer screenings, while specialists conducted lectures on pre-natal care, nutrition, and breastfeeding.

Mayor Fernandez said the local government considers maternal and infant health as one of the top priorities of her Alagang Balon Dagupan program. (CIO)
