Binmaley braces for calamities

BINMALEY – In case a calamity strikes, the local government of Binmaley wants to be sure that it has enough evacuation centers for affected residents.

Toward this end, Mayor Simplicio Rosario said evacuation centers are now being constructed in barangays Calit, Buenlag and Camaley.

“Nobody wants disasters to happen but we have to be prepared for any eventuality,” Rosario said in his State of the Municipality Address (SOMA) last week.

Other barangays will also have their own evacuation centers soon, he said.

Rosario also announced the construction of barangay halls in Sta. Rosa and Canaoalan, a new public market, a Binmaley Arcade in Plaza Rizal Street, ATM Booth Center near the Municipal Hall and an irrigation project in Barangay Tombor to help farmers from the said barangay including Papagueyan and Parayao.

The construction of a composting facility in Barangay Tombor has also started to produce organic fertilizer for crops and to help reduce the volume of garbage in order to protect the environment.

He also mentioned a medical assistance program for indigent residents and more privileges for senior citizens, i.e., gifts on their birthdays, free movies at CSI The Mall Cinema in Dagupan City.

Vice-President Jejomar Binay graced the SOMA of Mayor Rosario on Monday and

led the inauguration of the Binmaley Manpower Development Center and the groundbreaking of a 2.8 hectare housing project in Barangay Papagueyan in Binmaley.

“This is not just to satisfy a need, which is important, but this is also to build capabilities for long-term usefulness,” Binay said of the development center. (PIA Pangasinan /Johanne Macob)
