Red tide still up only in Anda, Bolinao
ALAMINOS, TWO TOWNS SAFE
CONTRARY to warnings issued through the national media, there is no ban on shellfish from Pangasinan since only the waters of Anda and Bolinao remain positive of red tide, the paralytic shellfish poison.
From the shellfish bulletin issued by the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) on January 22, the coastal waters of Alaminos City, Sual and Wawa Bani are already free of toxic red tides.
“Fish, squids, shrimps and crabs are fit for human consumption, except for alamang gathered in these areas,” said BFAR.
The result was based from the test conducted on the shellfishes collected on the different municipalities by the BFAR and the local government units (LGUs).
The coastal waters of Milagros Masbate, Bolinao and Anda in Pangasinan, Bataan coastal waters to include Mariveles, Limay, Orion, Pilar, Balanga, Abucay and Samal are still positive of red tide toxins.
BFAR warns the public that all types of shellfishes from these areas are not safe for human consumption although fish, squids, shrimps and crabs can be consumed provided they are fresh and washed thoroughly, internal organs such gills and intestines were removed prior to cooking.
