PhilHealth Run hosted 2,500 runners
SOME 2,500 runners joined 2015 Philhealth Run in Dagupan City last Feb. 15 in conjunction with the 20th anniversary of the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth).
Dr. Leo Douglas Cardona, PhilHealth regional vice president for the Ilocos, said the run was also dubbed “Run for Heath and Peace” to honor the memory of the 44 Special Action Force commandos of the Philippine National Police killed in Mamasapano, Maguindanao.
Runners La Union, Ilocos Sur and Ilocos Norte where PhilHealth provincial health offices are located, also participated.
The proceeds of of the activity will be donated by the agency to The Haven, a center for abused women in Barangay Bonuan Binloc in Dagupan City operated by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).
Meanwhile, Helen Tobias, chief of field operations of PhilHealth Region 1, said as part of the agency’s anniversary, 20 selected Rural Health Units (RHus) across the ilocos have rendered health services to the indigent families in partnership with the local government units (LGUs) and the Philippine Red Cross (PRC).
Cardona said to date, of the more than five million people in Region 1, at least 87 percent are now covered by health insurance.
