Ocean Adventure takes over nurturing of one
BEACHED DOLPHINS
THE rehabilitation of one of the Fraser’s Dolphin found by personnel of the provincial government beached behind the provincial capitol on January 29 brought to the National Integrated Fisheries Technology and Development Center (NIFTDC) for medical care, was eventually endorsed to the Ocean Adventure in Subic last week.
Dr. Westly Rosario, NIFTDC chief, said that he opted to give the dolphin measuring 2.4 meters, which bore no wound but appeared disoriented, to the Subic group that has better facilities for its continued care.
This particular dolphin was swimming in the water belly up, risking drowning and it had to be monitored 24/7 while in a concrete tank at NIFTDC.
There were 20 dolphins beached in Pangasinan and La Union and 10 of which had died from their wounds caused by what was suspected to be spears thrust by commercial fishermen
Nine of those that survived were released back to the sea after their wounds were treated while the dead were buried at the fish cemetery inside NIFTDC.
“We hope that at Ocean Adventure, the dolphin will regain its strength and will be returned to the sea soon,” said Rosario. (Leonardo Micua)
