Metro Dagupan rules PRISAA regional games

PRISAA Metro Dagupan notched a total of 55 medals and ranked first in the overall medal tally to rule the recently-concluded PRISAA (Private Schools Athletic Association Region I) Regional Games, held on February 16-19, at the Narciso Ramos Sports and Civic Center, in Lingayen.

The Dagupeõs took home 35 gold, 15 silver and 5 bronze from their first place finishes in basketball, karatedo, taekwondo, and cultural events – vocal solo and vocal duet singing.

PRISAA Metro San Carlos reaped a total of 87 medals – 33 gold, 30 silver, and 24 bronze for second place. Its athletes produced 27 gold medals in the individual and relay events of athletics.

PRISAA La Union came in third overall with its 14 gold, 16 silver and 10 bronze medals haul. Laoag City-Ilocos Norte and Pangasinan I & II occupied fourth and fifth slots, in that order, grabbing 2 gold, 8 silver, and 13 bronze; and, 26 silver and 8 bronze, respectively.

Metro Dagupan team devastated the La Union side, 75-63, in the basketball championship game. In their battle for third place, Laoag City-Ilocos Norte trounced Metro San Carlos, 67-59.

Metro Dagupan and La Union entered the championship duel by virtue of their convincing triumphs over their respective rivals on the first day of the basketball matches with similar 2-0 win-loss cards. Initially Metro Dagupan defeated Metro San Carlos, 104-64, and Laoag City, 90-59, while La Union outscored Laoag City, 66-58, and Metro San Carlos, 78-52.

All the first place winners in the regional sporting event will represent PRISAA Region I in the forthcoming PRISAA National Games slated, on April 6-12 in Iloilo City. (Philamer C. Celi)
