Manay Gina gifts elderly with reading glasses

BIRTHDAY TRADITION

FOURTH District Rep. Gina de Venecia again distributed reading glasses to senior citizens in 140 brangays in the district in keeping with her yearly birthday tradition last February 15.

De Venecia, who held her birthday bash at their family-owned Sampaguita Garden in Quezon City on February 16 attended by national and local government officials and supporters, said she chose to gift the senior citizens every year to thank them for their great contributions for the development of their communities.

The Association of Women Legislators which she heads as president, decided to donate to the families of members of the “Fallen 44” who died in the Mamasapano incident in Maguindanao in her name.

Other members of Congress donated funds to The Haven and its 15 regional centers that are helping abused and battered women, the streets children and the abandoned senior citizens.

Dagupan barangay kapitans

Dagupan barangay kapitans came in full force to greet Manay Gina.

She said these activities were in keeping with the words of Pope Francis: ” As Christians, we should offer ourselves passionately and honestly to the great work of renewing our society and helping to build a better world.”

She and former Speaker De Venecia inaugurated the Guillermo de Venecia building at the Jose R. de Venecia Memorial National High School on Feb. 17 in Barangay Bolosan, Dagupan City, a project which the congresswoman initiated.

Guillermo was a former mayor of Dagupan who built during his reign the Dagupan municipal hall. He was the grandfather of former Speaker De Venecia.

” Your Kuya Joe and I share in this thought and already prepared ourselves to spend the rest of our lives in serving our country and people,” she said.
