Manaoag braces for huge crowds

MANAOAG– Pangasinan is preparing and bracing itself for the arrival of thousands of tourists and athletes in this town to participate and to witness two big events this week.

On February 15-20, the town will host the Region 1 Athletic Association (R1AA) wnile the Shrine of Our Lady of the Rosary of Manaoag will be formally proclaimed as a “Minor Basilica” In the afternoon of February 17
Pope Francis had proclaimed the Manaoag church as a “Minor Basilica” on October 11, 2014.

According to Col. Edison Revita, chief of police of the Manaoag Police Station, a truck ban is effective fromFebruary 10-25 and an augmentation force has also been requested.

Provincial sports director Modesto Operaña said R1AA is usually participated in by around 17,000 student-athletes from the four provinces in the region.
The Pangasinan team is now undergoing their training for R1AA, he added. (Johanne R. Macob)
