Dagupan police intensifies campaign vs illegal drugs
2015 CAMPAIGN
DAGUPAN City is still not drug free but the chief of the city police station is determined not to make it easy for drug syndicates to operate in the city.
This much was pledged by Supt. Christopher Abrahano, chief of DCPS, when he reported the results of last year’s anti-illegal drugs campaign.
The station’s 93 operations last year led to the arrest of 132 drug personalities, 92 of whom were male while 40 were female, and seizure of 256. 229 grams of shabu valued at P1.281 million.
The DCPS also seized 216.56 grams of marijuana.
Abrahano said both the number of operations and results of their anti- illegal drug operations are higher than those registered in 2012 and 2013.
Only 109 persons were apprehended and 229.419 grams of shabu valued at P1.147 million and 178. 96 grams of Marijuana were seized from 60 operations were confiscated.
Abrahano attributed the increase in the activities in the campaign to the efforts of the City Anti- Drug Abuse Council (CADAC) and the various Barangay Anti- Drug Abuse Councils (BADAC) of the city.
He added the anti- drug text line launched by the city government led to the gathering of valuable information about activities of drug personalities.
“Through that text line, we were able to get more information that led to successful operations”, said Abrahano.
It was in one of the operations when the police discovered shabu wrapped in candy wrappers as one of the newest modus operandi of the drug syndicates in order to peddle the shabu in the streets without detection.
That operation in Barangay Mangin led to the arrest of Bolaw Jamal, Jonaida Jamal and Salapuden Abdullah and 22 sachets or 57 grams of shabu last February 27.
He added the joint operation of DCPS and Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) region one last October 28 resulted in the confiscation of 64 sachets of shabu and arrest of 12 persons.
The notorious drug dealer in the city, Alvin Castro of Sitio Silungan, Bonuan Binloc was also arrested last year.
Abrahano said the station will start focusing on the demand- reduction side of the anti- illegal drugs campaign in addtion to their continuing efforts.
“We will continue to work with CADAC and train the members of BADAC until they are fully equipped to handle information on illegal drug cases in their communities”, said Abrahano.
“Illegal drug traders have no place in Dagupan City, we will prove that to them, Abrahano intoned.” (Hilda Austria)
