PANGASINAN’S ‘FALLEN 44’ HEROES

THE provincial government of Pangasinan is giving P200,000 as financial assistance each to the bereaved families of the two Police Special Action Force (SAF) commandos from Pangasinan, among the 44 who died in the Mamasapano, Maguindanao incident last Jan. 25.

The financial assistance will be given to the families of SPO2 Ephraim Mejia of San Nicolas town and SPO2 Romeo Senen II of San Fabian.

This was bared by Gov. Amado Espino Jr., during the KBP Forum last Thursday.

Only the remains of Mejia were buried in his hometown as  Senen’s remains were brought to Iligan City where his wife resides.

The financial assistance to the families of the two was provided for in an earlier resolution of condolence to the families Mejia and Senes as it recognized the bravery and heroism of two members of the so-called Fallen 44 who perished in that Mamasapano incident.

Espino said that in the case of the widow of PO2 Mejia, Miya, she will be initially employed at the Eastern Pangasinan District Hospital in Tayug, while the other unemployed relatives will also be given employment.

The governor was among the  first who  condoled with the Mejia family when Mejia’s remains arrived in San Nicolas from Manila, and accompanied Interior and Local Government Secretary Manuel Roxas II to pay his respects.

He led mourners on the day PO2 Mejia was interred at the San Nicolas Municipal Cemetery last Feb. 5.

Espino said the provincial government’s’s assistance are but a small way to thank PO2 Mejia for his heroism to help ensure peace in the country. (Leonardo Micua)
