LINGAYEN—The police were not taking chances with the boxes of banned firecrackers seized during raids of stalls of vendors in the province.

The seized firecrackers were destroyed by hosing them with water and buried them on December 31, 2014.

The Pangasinan Provincial Police Office (PPPO) led by P/Senior Superintendent Reynaldo Biay in coordination with the Bureau of Fire Protection-Lingayen hosed then dug in the ground over five containers of illegal firecrackers.

“We have to prevent the banned firecrackers from causing destruction or injury especially to the youth,” Biay said.

Among those destroyed were illegal firecrackers confiscated in Dagupan, Malasiqui, and Bayambang.

Meanwhile, some illegal firecrackers seized by the Binmaley and Lingayen police were not included since these will form part of the evidence in the case filed against vendors.

The Lingayen Police Station confiscated 11 boxes and 17 packs of Piccolo, six packs of five star or pla-pla, and three pieces of dynamite amounting to about P888.

The local vendors were caught in the act selling the prohibited firecrackers.

Charges in violation of Republic Act 7183 or the Act Regulating the Sale, Manu- facture, Distribution and Use of Firecrackers and Other Pyrotechnic Devices are now being prepared against the suspects. (Johanne Macob/PNA)
