DAGUPAN CITY—More than 5,600 hectares of land manily in 13 towns have already been planted with various forest thee species

This was confirmed by Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) in its report to the provincial government.

Leduina Co, PENRO officer, said the number surpassed the target hectarage for the year 2014 for the National Greening Program (NGP) of the Aquino administration.

She said the trees planted this year were on top of the trees planted to replace the trees that were removed along the Manila North Road (MNR).

The PENRO credited the people’s organizations, civil society groups, police, military, schools, and other government and non-government organizations for the success because without whose help, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources could have not have done it alone.

The trees are planted in the towns of Bugallon, Mangatarem, Aguilar, Labrador, Mabini, Infanta, Dasol, Bani, Bolinao, Sison, San Nicolas, Natividad, Umingan and others.

NGP, started in 2011, will end in 2016.

The tree species planted depended on the kind of soil in a particular area.

The MNR replacement of trees project covers 387 hectares with density of 500 seedlings per hectare. About P6-million fund from the Department of Public Works and Highways was used for this purpose, Co said.

These trees were planted manily in Umingan, Binalonan and San Manuel. (Tita Roces)
