Mythical teams formed for R1 Athletic Meet

THE Division of City Schools of the Department of Education has formed elementary and high school basketball mythical teams composed of outstanding players culled from champion teams of the recently concluded DepED Development Basketball League to represent the city in the forthcoming Region 1 Athletic Meet in Manaoag, tentatively slated on February 15-21.

DepED Education Supervisor Edilberto R. Abalos said the early formation of the teams will enable them to prepare and train early for the regional sporting event which serves as the qualifying stage for athletes in representing Region 1 in the Palarong Pambansa to be hosted by the Province of Davao del Norte, in Tagum City, this May.

Abalos said the young cagers drawn for the secondary level, girls division are: five players from Judge Jose de Venecia Sr. Memorial National High School led by Most Valuable Player (MVP) Rica Aquino and Rookie of the Year (ROY) Kristine Catbyab; two from Pangasinan Universal Institute (PUI) led by Most Improved Player (MIP) Jeremy Lauaren Alejandrino; three from St. Albert the Great School. One player each from St. John Cathedral School (SJCS) and East Central Integrated School.

The composition of the boys division is: two players each from Federico N. Ceralde Integrated School led by MVP Jed Damaso and St. Albert; three players from PUI; Roy Diether Roxas of La Marea Academy, MIP Jerold Biascan of Divine Word Academy of Dagupan; one player each from LNU-FQDSSHS, Dagupan City National High School, and St. Michael School by the Sea.

In the elementary level, boys division, the selection is composed of three players from SJCS led by MVP Raven Cortez0 and ROY Railey dela Cruz, two players each from Dominican School of Dagupan led by MIP Philipp Ferrer, SAGS, and Genesis, one player each from Wonderland School, DWAD, and LNU Creative Montessori Center.

Abalos also said basketball in the elementary level girls division is not yet included in the list of sports and events in the R1AA. The city will participate in all the events lined up for competitions except softball girls and boxing in the secondary level.—(Philamer C. Celi)
