Lower illegal recruitment cases noted

LINGAYEN– The Provincial Employment and Services Office (PESO) here recorded a significant decrease in the number of illegal recruitment including human trafficking cases in the province.

PESO chief Alex Ferrer said the cases in the year 2014 is lower by more than 50% compared to 2013. In 2013, he said, 74 illegal recruitment and human trafficking cases were reported; this year, the number was dragged down to 40 cases.

Ferrer attributed it to intensified campaign of the provincial government against illegal recruiters and human traffickers through the organizaiton of OFW family associations, the OFW mapping project dubbed Bantay Barangay, Tulong Hanapbuhay, seminars and , billboards .

The PESO hopes to achieve zero illegal recruitment and human trafficking by the end of year 2016. (Johanne R. Macob)
