It will be “TESDA sa Barangay” for Bani

BANI– The municipal government of Bani will soon launch a technical vocational training in a number of barangays to equip residents with more employable skills.

Mayor Gwen Yamamoto told The PUNCH in an interview that many still cannot afford to commute to the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) training center in the town so the “TESDA sa Barangay” program is a better alternative.

Yamamoto noted that part of TESDA’s community-based Special Training for Employment Program (STEP) is to bring the training to where the people are.

Discussions are already ongoing to determine which training courses would be more useful to the town’s work force.

Initially, training women for massage therapy and beauty care courses has been agreed on.

The TESDA training center in Bani presently offers courses on welding and heavy equipment with 100% certification rate and 74% employment rate, Yamamoto said.

Bani was among the 21 local government units in the province that was awarded by TESDA with starter tool kits like welding machines, kitchenwares, massage kits, among others for training and livelihood opportunities. (Johanne R. Macob)
