DAGUPAN CITY – A former housemaid and a salesclerk at the Malimgas Public Market is now a licensed computer technician after she passed the National Competency Level 2 examination conducted by Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) last week right after graduating from basic computer course under Project B.E.L.E.N. (Better Education for Livelihood and Employment Needs).

In her desire to learn more about computers, Myracel G. Lamsen, 20, of Barangay Mangin, enrolled and finished basic computer course specializing in basic computer operations, photoshop and computer hardware servicing and repair for three months  for free.

“Gusto ko mag-aral ng computer because ito po ang in-demand na trabaho ngayong panahon,” Lamsen said.

Lamsen hopes to find work using her acquired knowledge to help her parents, Federico and Marietta Lamsen and her  siblings.

“We are six in the family. I would like to seek employment in any company where I can use what I’ve learned,” Lamsen added.

Lamsen said she was able to enroll  in the program through the help of her employer with whom she used to work as a housemaid.

“I am thankful to my employer kasi tinulungan po nila ako na makapag-aral ng computer. Salamat po kay Ate Jem. Kung hindi po sa kanila hindi ko po mapagsasabay ang pag-aaral ko at pag-tratrabaho ko sa kanila,” Lamsen said.

Project B.E.L.E.N. was launched by Mayor Belen T. Fernandez to provide basic computer education, livelihood training on food processing, carpentry, and 2D animation in a bid to help unemployed mothers and the youth earn a living. (Joseph C. Bacani/CIO)
