Cong. Mark thanks Malasiquians for support

COJUANGCO UPDATES

MALASIQUI—Former Fifth District Rep. Mark Cojuangco felt the warmth and rousing welcome of Malasiquinians when he was their guest of honor and speaker during their town fiesta’s barangay night on January 20.

Cojuangco, a gubernatorial wannabe, thanked the municipal officials led by Mayor Armand Domantay whom he described as very loyal to him and the Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC). He also expressed his gratitude to Vice Mayor Noel Anthony Geslani, the Sangguniang Bayan members, barangay officials led by Liga ng mga Barangay President and the mayor’s son Erik Brian Domantay.

Cojuangco was joined by Calasiao Mayor Mark Roy Macanlalay, his vice gubernatorial bet in 2016, and San Carlos City Councilor Vici Ventanilla who is set to run as third district Board Member under Cojuangco’s team.

The former congressman said he treasures the elder Domantay’s loyalty even as he vowed to recompense it especially in their political undertakings.

Former Fifth District Rep. Mark Cojuangco thanks Malasiquinians during the Barangay Night of their town fiesta last Jan. 20. Malasiqui Mayor Armand Domantay leads officials in honoring him on stage.

He said he is happy to be with the Malasiquinians, saying his presence during their barangay night is an opportunity for him to know and be close to the people and for them to know him better, too.

He said that as soon as he manifested his interest and announced his bid to run for governor of Pangasinan in the 2016 elections, several black propaganda items had been thrown against him.

One of these is his being allegedly not a Pangasinense, to which Cojuangco said although he was not born here, “yet I chose to live, reside, vote and serve the people in this province since 1967”. He said this is weightier than those who claim to be Pangasinense only by accident of being born here.

Cojuangco’s father, former ambassador Eduardo “Danding” Cojuangco Jr., established the Northern Cement Corporation in Sison, Pangasinan.

The three-term congressman also clarified that he had been supportive of the incumbent governor, with he and his wife speaking on national television to strongly defend him when top officials of the country were ganging up on him, especially during the last elections.

“We did not leave him. We supported him all the way but when I announced in February my intention to run for governor, he resigned from the NPC,” Cojuangco said.

He said under the law, an elected official can only serve three successive terms and therefore it is logical and legal that signifying his interest to run for said position is a normal thing.

Cojuangco also recalled that in all his three fights as congressman, he always got more than 90 percent of the voters’ votes, a sign of their high approval of the kind of services he delivered. When his wife Kimi also ran twice as his successor in his congressional post, she also got the same resounding mandate.

“The services we give to the people of fifth district are the kind of service that I would like to deliver in the entire province of Pangasinan,” Cojuangco said.
