MAYOR Belen T. Fernandez turned-over shallow tube wells consisting  of  a five-horse power  water pump engine and a pitcher pump to the farmers association in Barangay Mangin  for them to irrigate their farmland, comprising 25 hectares.

“This will help our farmers produce other crops other than rice to augment their income after their first harvest,” Fernandez said, noting that these farmers only till their lands on rainy days as these  become   barren as soon as  the rainy season is over.

Punong Barangay Benedict Cayabyab thanked Mayor Fernandez for the equipment even as  he assured farmers that the barangay council will immediately put  the equipment in operation as soon as possible, which is their equity to this project.

Barangay Kagawad Darwin Z. Aquino said that around 180 local farmers will benefit from the irrigation equipment, which will help them plant other crops like mongo, peanuts, corn and vegetables that do  not need a lot of water to survive.

“This is very significant in terms of helping our farmers earn some extra income from their lands and at the same time assure us something to buy from the market that are  produced by our farmers,” City Agriculture Officer Emma J. Molina said.

Aside from farmers of Mangin, the other beneficiaries of the program are  those from barangays of Salisay and Bolosan, Tebeng and Bonuan Boquig.

The project was made possible under the Grassroots Participatory Budgeting Process (GPBP). (Joseph C. Bacani/CIO))
