Armed man killed, 3 others arrested

SHOOTOUT IN DAGUPAN

ONE person was killed while three of his companions were arrested by the Dagupan police in Barangay Lucao during a shootout, after the group’s failed to shoot and kill a father and son.

P/Superintendent Christopher Abrahano, Dagupan police chief, identified the fatality as one Eduard Diaz, a resident of the place.

The  arrested suspects were identified as Ricky Velasco, 46, fisherman, and Jimmy Anona, 41, also both of the place; and one Arthur Ablao, 30  of Barangay Pao, Manaoag, Pangasinan, who was arrested in Sitio Tocok, Lucao.

The shootout happened at 8:30 p.m. in Sitio Abalosky, Lucao when the police conducted a follow up investigation relative to the earlier shooting incident in Sitio Tocok, at around 12:45  p..m. where the suspects opened fire on Rudy Padilla Sr., 65; and his son Rudy Padilla Jr, 35, both residents of De Venecia Highway in Lucao, Dagupan City, while they were harvesting milkfish.

The father and son were left unhurt when the suspects fled after elder Padilla retaliated and returned fire with his licensed firearm. One of the suspects, Ablao, fled to  a nearby house where he was cornered by responding policemen from the nearby Lucao police precinct.

Seized from Ablao were a M16 A1 Armalite Rifle with loaded magazines and a Caliber 45 pistol without serial number loaded  with four live ammunition.

Immediately after learning of the whereabouts of the other suspects, the police, in coordination with Intelligence Operatives and Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT)! of  the Pangasinan Provincial  Police Office and members of the Provincial Intelligence Division, proceeded to the house of one Ricky Velasco where the other suspects were hiding.

The group was having a shabu pot session when the police arrived. Diaz immediately fired at the lawmen prompting the latter to return fire and quickly neutralized the suspect.

Diaz was rushed to RIMC Hospital by responding personnel of City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office to the Region 1 Medical Center but was pronounced dead on arrival.

Recovered from the other suspects were a 12-gauge Armscor shotgun with five live ammunition, one cal. 9mm luger loaded with one magazine containing eight live ammunition; one piece  of bandolier for Armalite magazines; one piece of shotgun case colored black; eleven  pieces of small M16 magazines (20 rounds) and one piece of big M16 magazine (30 rounds); two empty shells for caliber 9mm pistol and one piece of empty shell of caliber 5.56 m.m

Also recovered were one piece of glass totter; four pieces of used aluminum foil strips and three pieces of disposable lighters which were used by the suspects during their pot session.

A case for frustrated murder and possession of illegal drugs have been filed against the suspects. (LVM)
