6 dead, 1 wounded in shooting incidents

LINGAYEN—At least six persons were killed and another was wounded by suspects riding in tandem on motorcycles in separate shooting incidents across Pangasinan during the papal visit in the country.

Larry Miranda, 41, married, ex-barangay kagawad and Virgilio Ferrer, 58, married, both from Longos, Calasiao town were shot dead by unidentified assailants Sunday afternoon along Barangay Pangalangan, San Carlos City.

The victims were on their way home from a cockpit arena riding on a motorcycle in Barangay Capataan this city when the suspects tailed and shot them.

Miranda sustained four gunshot wounds on his upper back body while Ferrer was hit  on his lower back body and were rushed to Pangasinan Provincial Hospital but both were declared dead on arrival.

Investigators recovered at the crime scene four empty shells of caliber .45 and the victims’ cash money of P6,120 and other personal belongings.

Motive for the killing has yet to be established.

In Bugallon town, Mark Garcia, 42, of Barangay Maambal, Pozorrubio town and the caretaker of a poultry farm of former Binmaley mayor Lorenzo Cerezo was shot dead in Barangay Salomague at around 1:15 a.m. of January 17 and the suspects carted away P70,000 cash entrusted to him.

Another fatality on the same day was Jesus Sison, 63, farmer and a resident of Barangay Balococ, Lingayen town who was collecting wood when an unidentified suspect shot him several times with a caliber .45.

Meanwhile, Reynaldo Delfin, 43, single, farmer resident of Barangay Amamperez, Villasis town was also gunned down on Jan. 17 by suspect Primitivo Barnachea, 63, married, farmer and resident of said place.

Investigation showed Delfin went to a sari-sari store to buy cigarette and juice drink when the suspect suddenly shot him several times.

Jonathan Barnachea who was attending to the victim was hit by a stray bullet and was rushed to a hospital.

In a separate shooting incident on Jan. 16 at about 10:40 p.m. Anthony Perez, 39, married, employee of PhilHealth and resident of Barangay Matalava West, Lingayen town, was slain when unidentified suspects shot him while he was on his way home pedaling his bicycle.—(Tita Roces)
