No VIPs in provincial jail

MOSTLY DRUG OFFENDERS

LINGAYEN—Majority of the inmates detained at the Pangasinan Provincial Jail (PPJ) are charged for illegal-drug related cases, but unlike the situation at the New Bilibid in Muntinlupa, there are no “very important persons” (VIPs) or special treatment of any kind provided an inmate.

This was the assurance given by Porferio Cruz, the provincial warden.

Wala tayong VIP or special treatment na kahit sa sino,” he said.

Cruz said the provincial jail has 328 inmates at present, of which 16 are females.
The provincial jail can accommodate up to 700 inmates, Cruz said, assuring the jail is not crowded, yet.

“Majority of the cases, sa lalaki at babae, drugs talaga,” he added.

Last December 18, Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines president and Lingayen- Dagupan Archbishop Socrates Villegas officiated a mass at the PPJ.

Cruz said Catholic mass is celebrated for inmates, every Saturday at 2 p.m.. (Johanne Macob)
