LINGAYEN- The campaign against illegal drugs in the province has gained momentum.

The Liga ng mga Barangay provincial federation is set to hold a provincial anti- drug summit here tentatively scheduled on December 10 this year to discuss and plan an intensified campaign against illegal drugs at the barangay level.

Board Member Amado Espino III, provincial Liga federation president, said the activity was discussed during a meeting of presidents of Liga municipal and city chapters.

The son and namesake of Governor Amado Espino Jr. said the drug summit will be attended by more than 1,300 barangay captains as heads of the newly reactivated Barangay Anti-Drug Abuse Councils (BADACs).

The young Espino said the scheduled summit will explain to the barangay officials the significance of their role in the campaign to make Pangasinan drug-free.

He said the barangay captains, as heads of BADACs, may have their own plans to eliminate illegal drugs in their respective areas but most do not know how to implement their plans, that is why there is a need for the summit.

“It is important that they know and understand the roles they play, the laws that need to be enforced and the important linkages in order to win this war against drug lords and pushers in our barangays, “ Espino said.

“Our barangay officials, with the help of the police and other law enforcement agencies, are crucial in preventing their constituents from being victimized by drug pushers,” he added. (LVM)
