Five top teams sweep series, clinch division titles

DEVELOPMENTAL BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIPS

FIVE teams in the elementary and secondary levels, girls and boys divisions, swept their respective rivals in Game 2 of their best-of-three title series to emerge division champions in the Developmental Basketball Championships, held last week, at the Peoples Astrodome, under the auspices of the Department of education Division of City Schools.

In the elementary level, Lucao Elementary School thumped St. Albert the Great School, 56-40, to snare the boys division 2 crown while St. John cathedral School crushed Dominican School, 76-52, for the boys division 1 title. Pangasinan Universal Institute (PUI) needed a Game 3 rubber match to thwart West Central Elementary School, 36-28, to win the girls division championship.

The results in the secondary level were: girls division – Judge Jose de Venecia Sr. Memorial NHS devastated PUI, 58-29; boys division 2 – St. Michael School by the Sea blasted La Marea Academy, 58-44; and boys division 1 – Federico N. Ceralde Integrated School slammed Divine Word Academy of Dagupan, 80-58.

After the games, DepED Education Supervisor and championship director Edilberto R. Abalos presented the awards and trophies to the team and individual winners. From the various champion teams, selections were formed for elementary and secondary levels, boys and girls divisions, to represent Dagupan City in the Region I Athletic Association (RIAA) Meet in Manaoag in March.
