DA’s poverty reduction program in Pangasinan soon

LINGAYEN– The poverty reduction program of the Department of Agriculture is expected to be implemented in the province soon after Gov. Amado T. Espino. Jr. signs a memorandum of agreement with the agency.

The implementation of the Philippine Rural Development Program (PRDP) will require the collaboration between the provincial government DA will soon implement to further enhance the agricultural sectors in the province.

PRDP, a six-year (6) project, will establish a modern, climate-smart and market-oriented agri-fishery sector with infrastructure, facilities, technology, and information that will raise incomes, productivity, and competitiveness in the countryside.

The program will seek to increase income of targeted beneficiaries of enterprise development by 30%, the value of annual marketed output by 7%, and the number of farmers and fishermen with improved access to DA services by 20%.

Earlier, the DA Regional Field Office 1 (DA-RFO1) said mango is the focused commodity in the region which includes the province of Pangasinan under the PRDP. Pangasinan is the top mango producer in the region, producing about 35% of the total regional output. (Johanne Macob)
