Dagupan Island Tour launch, Dec. 22
RESERVED FOR PAWIL DAGUPAN
THE balikbayans coming home for the “Pawil Dagupan” program will be given the honor to board the three customized flatboats for the Dagupan Island Tours in their official maiden voyage along the Pantal and Calmay rivers on Dec. 22 as part of the Dagupan City Fiesta program.
Sharon Maramba, city tourism coordinator, said the “Pawil Dagupan” Cruise will be hosted by Mayor Belen Fernandez on board the three boats named “Philippines,” “USA,” and “China” bearing separate motifs typical in those three countries.
Dagupan Island Tours starts from the newly-built docking area at the Pantal River near the Star Plaza Hotel, and will cruise to the different island barangays.
Maramba called on balikbayans to register in barangay halls to join the free “Pawil Dagupan Cruise,” or register through the Dagupan website www.dagupan.gov.ph.
Activities offered by the tour include buying fish by the docking ports, feeding the fish and fishing with a hook and line.
The first to register for the ‘Pawil Dagupan Cruise” were 30 balikbayans led by Epee Rafanan from San Francisco, California, to attend the grand reunion of the Dagupan City National High School.
The Dagupan Island Tours replaced the short-lived Dagupan River Cruise initiated by former Mayor Benjamin Lim that ceased to operate when the facilities were pulled out by Magic Group’s employees shortly after the 2013 elections.
The Island Tours boats were donated to the city by Unilever, Procter and Gamble and Kraft. (LVM)
