Bani introduces “homestay” for visitors
BANI– This first district town that boasts of white beach and sweet, red watermelons is set to welcome to tourists in residents’ homes.
Mayor Gwen Yamamoto said it has become imperative to develop a “homestay” business in the town since there are only two resorts with limited room accommodations in Bani.
The mayor said she led a delegation to Pagudpud in Ilocos Norte three weeks ago to study the town’s booming home-stay program.
“We will try to implement the same in Bani,” she said.
At least three homeowners, Yamamoto said, have already agreed to have their rooms rented out as home-stay for tourists.
The homeowners are already undergoing training for the accreditation of their houses with the Department of Tourism.
Yamamoto also disclosed that a new hotel will be constructed soon in the town.
This will be in addition to the existing two small resorts in Barangays Surip and Sitio Ulanen, Brgy. Dacap Sur with combined total accommodation for 80 persons only.
In the town proper, a room-stay facility is available for accommodation of 15 people.
Yamamoto said she is hoping for the accreditation to be done in time for the town’s 2015 Pakwan (watermelon) Festival with its major events on January 31- February 1.
Some of the activities lined up in the event include a street dance competition, street party with the participation of the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Legends from Ginebra and Purefoods, and the display of different varieties and shapes of watermelon. (Johanne Macob)
