Two downtown stores razed by firecrackers

FIRECRACKERS took their toll early in Dagupan when two stores on Fernandez St, were razed to the ground Wednesday afternoon.

The 20-minute fire that started at 3:20 p.m. raged on at 3:40 p.m., stalled traffic on A.B. Fernandez Avenue and Rizal Street.

Witnesses said a man and a woman entered one of the stores presumably to buy firecrackers and a few minutes later an explosion was heard few seconds after they came out.

The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) and the Dagupan Police are now conducting an investigation after learning that one of the stores was being used as a stockroom for firecrackers.

Officials of Barangay 2 welcomed the investigation since they never issued a permit to anyone to stock firecrackers in their jurisdiction, the downtown area.
