Spanish cyclist rules Sual bikefest

SPANISH cyclist Edgar Nieto surprised his Filipino counterparts by orchestrating a successful final climb 30 kilometers to the finish and arrived home unopposed to rule the Road Bike Philippines Cycling Challenge that started and finished in Sual town on November 9.

The rider from 7-Eleven team, a veteran competitor of Ronda and Le Tour de Filipinas, clocked the winding 140-kilometer course in three hours, 58 minutes and six seconds to pocket the P10,000 top prize.

Mark Julius Bonzo of Sual wheeled out in front of the four-man second pack three minutes, 14 seconds off the pace to bag P8,000 while Dominique Perez of Sto. Tomas, Pangasinan landed third worth P7,500.

Two-time Tour champion Mark Galedo of Mandaluyong City and Marcelo Felipe of Tarlac finished fourth and fifth bringing home P6,000 and P5,000, respectively.

There were 52 riders that officially answered the starting gun. (JAGJr)
