After the massive province-wide conduct of the Measles Rubella Oral Polio Vaccine Mass Immunization (MR OPV MI) in September this year, the Provincial Health Office (PHO) has announced that the province was able to meet the 90℅ target of the total number of children to be vaccinated.

A total of 288,118 children aged 9-59 months were given free Measles Rubella vaccine while 325, 876 children aged 0-59 months received doses of Oral Polio vaccine.

In an interview, PHO Officer-in-Charge Jeremy Agerico B. Rosario said, ” We have actually surpassed our target. The province was able to immunize 90.92℅ of its target children, which is slightly above the 90℅ target set by the Department of Health.”

He also stated that the successful implementation of the activity, which started from September 1 till the first week of October this year, can be attributed to the good coordination between DOH and PHO as well as PHO and all the local government units down to the barangay and the untiring commitments of barangay workers.

PHO also formed monitoring teams which performed Rapid Case Assessment initiatives.

In this strategy, each team was assigned in every inter-local health zone to ensure that there are no missed chidren in the area.

Based on the report submitted by PHO to the Office of Gov. Amado T. Espino, Jr., the top 10 performing LGUs on MR immunization include Urbiztondo, Binmaley, Mabini, Sta. Barbara, Mapandan, San Fabian, Basista, Calasiao and Malasiqui.

The same local government units also made it to the list of the top 10 performing LGUs on OPV immunization except for the municipality of Calasiao which was bumped off from the list by the municipality of Sual.

When asked whether parents of unimmunized children can still avail of the free immunization, Dr. Rosario assures that the vaccines are still available at the Rural Health Units and it can still be given to target recipients during their child’s visit to the health facility. (AJV)
