STO. Tomas resident duathlete Robeno Javier bagged the bronze medal in men’s duathlon in the Fourth Asian Beach Games held at Phuket, Thailand on November 15.

Javier, the country’s top male duathlete and protégé of Dangerous Drug Board chairman Sec. Bebot Villar, placed third behind two Japanese led by gold medalist Ryo Sueoka and silver winner Yuya Fukaura in the five-kilometer run, 20km bike and 2.5km run at the Sirinat National Park.

The 29 year-old Javier, a native of Urdaneta City, after fighting neck-and-neck run against the two Japanese practically throughout the race, faded in the final kilometer of the run with a time of 54:57 minutes, 37 seconds adrift of the winner Sueoka.

Indonesia’s Johan Jauhan and Javier’s compatriot Carlo Pedregosa placed fourth and fifth, respectively.

“I feel so happy that at least I won a medal for Philippines and this was my biggest achievement because this is an Asian event,” Javier proudly said.

Javier won the recent 2014 Active Health Duathlon Championship that propelled him to represent Philippines in the Asian tilt. (JAG, Jr.)
