Fishermen get new equipment from DOLE

FISHERMEN in Dagupan City’s island barangays can now look forward to improved earnings from their livelihood after their organization, Samahan ng Maliliit na Mangingisda sa Dagupan received a fishing gear called  “kalokor” or beach seine, and one fishing boat last November 26.

The two were turned over turnover by Mayor Belen T. Fernandez, Department of Labor and Employment’s (DOLE) Region 1 Director Grace Ursua, and Central Pangasinan Field Office Head Engracio Bailon to the group led by Liga ng mga Barangay President Marcelino Fernandez and Pugaro barangay captain Ador Bancod.

Fernandez thanked DOLE for extending the livelihood assistance to small fishermen in the island barangays whose source of income comes mainly from fishing.

DOLE also provided 60 negokarts to the city’s street vendors under its Negosyo sa Kariton project.

Only recently, a mega job fair was again conducted in the city.

Ursua said DOLE will continue to deliver more projects to benefit more Dagupeños especially the indigents. (CIO-L.C.Aquino)
