DAGUPAN City will host the nationwide observance of the Drug Abuse Prevention and Control (DAPC) Week on Nov. 17 to be led by Secretary Antonio Villar Jr. of the Dangerous Drugs Board (DDB).

The activity will be marked by the “Walk of Hope” at 5:30 a.m. from the Dagupan City Plaza to CSI Stadia where a program will be held to be attended by some 7,000 participants from municipalities and cities in Region 1.

Mayor Belen Fernandez, chairman of the Regional Peace and Order Council (RPOC) told local media “We are honored and thankful to Secretary Villar because our city has been chosen to be the host of the national kick-off ceremony of the DAPC week.”

Certificates, tokens and cash prizes will be awarded by the DDB to the Biggest Delegation, Most Colorful Delegation and Best Slogan.

A billboard carrying the DDB’s message “NO to Marijuana Legalization” will also be unveiled by the officials of Pangasinan LGUs, DDB and other agencies.

The observance will include a three-day seminar/training for tertiary level students undergoing the National Service Training Program (NSTP), a project of DDB and RPOC, to make them become NSTP implementers who can assist the government in its campaign against illegal drugs.

With the theme “A Message of Hope: Drug use disorders are preventable and treatable”, the activity was organized by DDB pursuant to Presidential Proclamation No. 124 issued on November 26, 2001, “Declaring the third week of November of every year as the Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Week.” (CIO)
