THE Dagupan Doctors Villaflor Memorial Hospital (DDVMH) joins the ranks of hospitals in the world that meet international quality standards.

The ISO 9001:2008 certification was awarded by the International Standards Certifications (ISC) during the hospital’s celebration of its 46th founding anniversary last September 27, 2014 at the CSI Stadia, Dagupan.

The DDVMH earned its ISO 9001:2008 certification after meeting the stringent requirements of the Quality Management System which requires an organization “to demonstrate its ability to provide products and services that meet customer and applicable statutory requirements with consistency and with provision for continual improvement – all with the end goal of enhancing customer satisfaction.”

On hand to witness the awarding are the DDVMH Department Heads and IQA Auditors.

The recent achievement underscored a milestone in its history as it looks back at 46 years of dedicated service committed to the welfare of the Pangasinan community, based on the vision of its founding patriarch – surgeon Dr. Vivencio V. Villaflor Sr., who opened a humble clinic and hospital along Arellano Street in 1968 to make quality medical care accessible to Dagupeños.

Today, DDVMH, a tertiary-level hospital with a pioneering Cancer Center and Minimally Invasive Surgery Center, is serving patients from all points in the region.

“We want to give back to Dagupan.  This hospital was built to serve, offering the best quality care to our patients. It is our way of giving back to the community that embraced us,” said DDVMH Medical Director Dr. Vivencio V. Villaflor, Jr.

DDVMH Chief Nurse Marie Fe G. Dela Cruz led the organization through the arduous process as the Quality Management Representative under the guidance of Eliseo Q. Mañares, Jr., an ISO expert from BEM-C Management and Consultancy Co.  Ruby R. Sayas, president and GM of International Standards Certifications Philippines Inc. (ISC-Phils.) led the external audit team and officially conferred the certification to the hospital on August 1, 2014.

“Our sleepless nights auditing and documenting were all worth it,” said says Dela Cruz  “The exercise surfaced procedures that need improvement and we are grateful we were given the opportunity to spot and address them. One cannot achieve quality if one is not brave enough to acknowledge that even the good can still be made better,” she added.

Hospital Administrator Dr. Gregoria P. Villaflor is confident that DDVMH employees will continue to take the lessons of ISO to heart and make quality a way of everyday life.

“A lot of these systems were already in place and the ISO process helped us validate some of the efficient practices that we have been doing all along, and now set these as standards, “ Villaflor remarked.
