LINGAYEN—Task Force Ebola has been created in the province by virtue of a resolution adopted by the sanggunian panlalawigan last week specifically to study and adopt strategies to prevent the spread of the Ebola virus in this province.

Dr. Jeremy Agerico Rosario, assistant provincial health officer, said the resolution initiated by Sixth District Board Member Ranjit Ramos Shahani creating a task force to monitor Ebola virus in the province is a welcome move even as he informed board members that the provincial health office is already meeting with doctors and proposing measures to control and contain the virus in the event a carrier is traced in Pangasinan.

He said the Provincial Health Emergency Response Service has been activated to ensure alerts are quickly disseminated to all the 14 provincial hospitals, rural health units and the Department of Health in case tests heed to be done and to isolate patients suspected to have the Ebola virus.

The board members agreed that the possibility may not be remote since Region I remains one of the top regions with the highest number of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW) and Pangasinan has been identified to have the biggest share.

The task force will be chaired by Gov. Amado Espino Jr, with Provincial Health Officer Ana de Guzman and Rosario as co-chairmen, with doctors in hospitals owned by the provincial government and municipal health officers, heads of Barangay Health Workers, chairman of the Committee on Health of the provincial board, representatives from the Philippine National Police, Department of Interior and Local Government and OFW Affairs as members.—Tita Roces
