BALON DAGUPAN NEWS

DAGUPAN CITY –Dagupan City and the Rotary Club of Dagupan (RCD) brought sports equipment and hygiene products for the inmates at the Bureau of Jail and Management and Penology (BJMP) District Jail last October 9.

The Rotary Club of Dagupan led by Michael Capito, club president and Dr. Edwin Aguirre, club secretary and representative of Mayor Belen Fernandez, donated basketballs, volleyballs, chess sets, and other board games, while the city government gave out toiletries to some 500 male inmates of the BJMP.

Capito said that the sports equipment will help provide inmates additional recreational activities that will develop and improve the inmates capacity-building.

He cited the support of the government to the club’s community outreach programs and pledged to continue to collaborate with Mayor Fernandez’s administration.

The club recently launched its own three-month feeding program in different barangays in the city.

The donation was made in support of the observance of the National Correctional Consciousness Week, which aims to create further public awareness towards the basic human rights of inmates.

According to SJO4 Raul Estrada, BJMP Liaison Officer, this year’s observance includes activities that address the inmates’ physical, emotional and spiritual needs. Legal counseling by the Public Attorney’s Office will also be arranged. (CIO)
